In July and August, Royal’s financial education team as well as team members from other departments, were busy in our metro communities sharing fun and interactive financial education lessons with kids in grades K-8 at 18 different YMCA locations across Wisconsin and Minnesota. For the 7th consecutive year, Royal partnered with YMCA of the North and taught at locations in Apple Valley, Eagan, Lakeville, Rosemount, St. Paul, Stillwater, Woodbury, Hastings, and Burnsville in MN and Hudson and Prescott in WI. Each site was visited twice, reaching over 2,200 youth through the delivery of 98 financial education presentations.
On our first visit, students participated in our signature program, Takeover Day, and met Royal’s Superheroes of Savings! Our caped presenters taught lessons about coin recognition/value, currency facts, and buying decisions based on costs which included a fun “Price Is Right” type game that the 4th and 5th graders really enjoyed. Our 6 – 8th grade students envisioned their future and made a vision board picturing their goals, hopes, and dreams. During our second visit, students engaged in hands on learning about grocery shopping, skip counting, savings goals and budgeting and our older students learned budgeting realities during Test Drive Mobile where they made decisions on housing, transportation, insurance, and more. Our on-going partnership with the YMCA Summer Program has benefitted thousands of children and is one of the ways that we embody our core purpose of creating a positive impact in the lives we touch.
