EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The RCU Foundation (Foundation) announced local charities will receive $30,000 following the 2024 Rock the Riverfront featuring the 30th annual Charity Classic. This year’s event took place on Saturday, June 22, and benefited local animal rescue organizations and their mission to providing care to animals while they wait for a second chance at finding loving families. The Foundation recognizes the important role that household pets play in many people’s lives and is proud to support these charities that make a difference in the Chippewa Valley.
Registered participants received one free vote at the time of registration; additional votes were available for purchase online at $2 each. Chippewa Humane Association earned 45% of the votes and will be awarded a $15,000 donation, Eau Claire County Humane Association earned 39% of the votes and will receive $10,000, and Dunn County Humane Association will receive $5,000 after earning 16% of the vote.
Rock the Riverfront featuring the 30th annual Charity Classic included a 10K, 2-mile walk/run, and two youth races and had a total of 740 race registrations. For each age group, the top male and female race participants were awarded first, second, and third place medals. All those who participated in the youth races received youth finisher medals. Race results and additional information can be found at rcu.org/Race.
Runners and non-runners alike enjoyed a wide variety of family activities. Phoenix Park was filled with food trucks, kid’s carnival games, facepainting, a balloon artist, and a dunk tank.
Earlier in the week, the Foundation’s Rock the Riverfront Classic Rock Hunt sponsored by Market & Johnson ended on Tuesday when Beau Sweitzer of Chippewa Falls found the rock hiding at Mound Hill Park in Elk Mound, Wisconsin. He and three friends actively hunted for the rock by getting the clues from the special locations each morning and carefully researching them before starting their hunt. Beau shared that he plans to split the the $500 prize four ways and put his portion into his savings account for upcoming expenses.
In addition to the Classic Rock Hunt, a Youth Rock Hunt was held in early June. A small rock was hidden in eight different communities, and the children that found the rocks received a Royal Credit Union Piggy Bank and $50 cash.
The RCU Foundation is thankful for the community’s support of the event and the three animal rescue charity beneficiaries!
